Dear all,

SEWARO!

I am profoundly grateful to take responsibility of this post as the President of Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, United Kingdom (KYCUK), which I am honoured and take pride to serve for our society. The team I have is very diverse and have various knowledge and experiences. We have also added up additional Advisory Committee Members, so that their expertise and advice will help to further promotion of our society.

On the outset of this message, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the outgoing Executive Committee Members and Area Members for their hard works and dedications. We all have witnessed their courage, tireless efforts and contributions setting up of our society in this crucial time in a superb manner – an example among other Nepalese communities here in the UK. I hope their experience and suggestions shall always be on our side.  With the view of further enhancement and upliftment of our society, we the Executive Committee Members have prioritise the following agendas so that changes which is deemed to be absolutely necessary be brought in to practice where possible and are highlighted below:

Communication: As in everyday life no matter what our business would be, from a family atmosphere to international affairs, communication plays a vital role. It is something that members have observed within their area or as a whole. We endeavour to thrive it by encouraging into becoming a member and actively involved in most importantly all the activities, meetings, functions and festivals. A means of contact method should be sought and brought into practice between Area Members (AM) and Executive bodies. We will also maintain a constant communication with other KYCs around the world and upload information on our website.

Religious and Ritual Practice: Without hindering other societies, religions and communities we are aiming to set up a logical method of continuing our religious and ritual practice here in the UK. Of course, there are many restrictions, which may affect us to adapt or bring it to practice – none the less this will provide essential needs to settle the matters. A choice of implementation of this practice will be left to the concerned individuals.

Various Activities: Activities gives the opportunity to meet people from various walks of life, offer to show their talents, exchange of information, brings the unity and above all maintain our communication. In addition to annual gathering, we have initiated Yalambarhang Cup and Chasok Tangnam as annual events. Chasok Tangnam has been officially recognised by Nepalese government as a main festival for Kirat (Limbu). We believe that this practice will bring a positive impact to our following generations on the basis of our history, religion, culture and costume. We encourage for more females and youth to participate in all the activities.

Honour and Awards: Various awards; Chumlung UK Award, Yalambarhang Award and Srijonga Award will be introduce to present for those individual(s) in recognition of their selfless commitment and contribution for the upliftment of KYC UK in various fields. These awards will be presented annually.

Literacy: In a long run, we are also considering to practice Limbu language to keep intact of our children. With this transitional period, it is some thing that we should not leave a gap where we have sufficient books and reference available. Further enhancement of this, we shall encourage our children for their participation in all activities. An interaction programme concerning to our religion, history and language is something what we determine to arrange in the respective areas.

Funding: We are looking to bring some improvement in our funds. Organising various activities and collection of annual membership contribution from all members can generate this to a sustainable state.  In summary, I along with all the executive members shall endeavour to do our best of the best for the upliftment of our society - morally, educationally, traditionally, historically and culturally.

I also assure that a sound changes when in need will be observed and be brought into practice suitably for this environment. I always welcome members’ feed back, comments, suggestions and support and request all to participate voluntarily whatever comes to a matter of our society.

Captain (Ret'd) Bombahadur Limbu
